Hyrox fitness racing expands globally amid competition incident

Hyrox, an indoor fitness competition combining running with functional workout stations, is seeing increased global interest. In Ecuador, the discipline is gaining popularity in gyms, offering various formats including Open, Pro, doubles, and relays for both beginners and experienced athletes.

During a recent Hyrox race in China, Australian athlete Joanna Wietrzyk experienced a medical incident involving fecal incontinence during the burpee broad jump station. The incident caused sanitary issues on the competition floor and equipment, leading some competitors to withdraw due to nausea. Medical experts note that such occurrences can be attributed to exercise-induced bowel urgency, often referred to as ‘runner’s diarrhea,’ caused by reduced blood flow to the digestive tract during strenuous activity.
