Hyundai begins IONIQ 3 electric vehicle production in Türkiye
Hyundai Motor Türkiye has officially commenced mass production of the fully electric IONIQ 3 at its İzmit plant in Kocaeli. This marks the first time an international automaker has produced a fully electric passenger vehicle in Türkiye.
The production launch follows a €250 million investment aimed at modernizing over half of the facility to accommodate electric vehicle manufacturing. The plant is expected to produce an initial 30,000 IONIQ 3 units annually. The vehicle, which features a range of up to 496 kilometers on certain battery configurations, is scheduled to go on sale in Türkiye and Europe in September 2026.
Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır noted that the investment, complemented by a battery-system assembly facility being developed by Hyundai Mobis, positions Türkiye as a significant hub for electric vehicle and battery technology. The İzmit factory, Hyundai’s longest-running overseas plant outside South Korea, has seen its total production capacity rise to 230,000 vehicles annually due to various investment incentives.
