Hyundai readies Ioniq 3 EV production in Turkey for European launch

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Chung Eui‑sun visited the company’s Izmit plant in Turkey on July 30 to inspect the production line for the Ioniq 3, Hyundai’s first sub‑compact electric vehicle aimed at the European B‑segment market. He reviewed body assembly, final vehicle finishing and the Hyundai Mobis Battery System Assembly facility, stressing that quality and safety must be the top priorities from the start of mass production.

The Ioniq 3 will enter mass production at the Izmit plant in mid‑August and will be rolled out across Europe in the second half of the year. Built on Hyundai’s Electric‑Global Modular Platform, the hatchback will feature the Pleos Connect infotainment system and SmartSense driver‑assistance technologies. Hyundai targets annual sales of more than 40,000 units from next year.

The Izmit facility, opened in 1997, has a capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year and has produced about 3.4 million cars to date, primarily compact models such as the i10 and i20. The Ioniq 3 will be the plant’s first electric‑vehicle model, marking a significant step in Hyundai’s strategy to expand its European EV lineup.
