Hyundai Engineering & Construction develops 100MW water electrolysis plant technology

Hyundai Engineering & Construction has commenced the development of design technologies for large-scale water electrolysis plants with a capacity of 100MW or more. The company is participating in a national project led by the Ministry of Environment, Field, and Energy to secure conceptual and basic design packages for large-scale hydrogen production.

As the lead organization, Hyundai Engineering & Construction will be responsible for developing basic design packages and conducting economic feasibility assessments. The project aims to create a comprehensive solution covering system configuration, core process design, and operational methods to reach a level suitable for demonstration and commercialization.

The company plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and dynamic process simulation models into the design process. This approach is intended to enhance the stability and reliability of plant operations by effectively responding to the output fluctuations of renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.

A consortium including Hyundai Engineering, Hyundai Motor, Hanwha Global, Korea Midang Power, Mirae Standard Research Institute, Seoul National University, and Korea University is participating in the project. The research will be conducted by the HMG Construction Technology Research Institute, an integrated R&D organization of Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Engineering.
