Hyundai Ioniq 5 becomes global volume EV model as Kia expands EV2 lineup
Hyundai has positioned the Ioniq 5 as a mass‑market electric crossover, moving from a design showcase to a high‑volume model. Built on the 800‑volt E‑GMP platform, the vehicle can charge at up to 350 kW, reaching 80 % in roughly 18 minutes under ideal conditions. Depending on battery size, WLTP ranges are quoted between 360 km and 507 km, with power output up to 225 kW. The flexible interior and advanced driver‑assist features are aimed at fleet customers and long‑distance drivers.
Kia has announced three new variants of its EV2 compact SUV – Black‑Line, Long‑Range, and GT‑Line – now in production at the Zilina plant in Slovakia. The Long‑Range version uses a 61 kWh battery delivering up to 453 km (WLTP). All models sit on the 400‑volt E‑GMP architecture and support DC fast charging from 10 % to 80 % in about 30 minutes, as well as AC charging at 11‑22 kW. New equipment includes Plug‑&‑Charge, bidirectional charging, and access to over a million public chargers across 27 European countries.
