Hyundai Ioniq 5 receives battery upgrades and new design concepts
Hyundai is implementing battery upgrades for the Ioniq 5 starting with the 2025 model year. Testing by Car and Driver indicates that the new long-range battery package increases range by 50 miles on highway routes at 75 mph compared to previous versions. The standard battery capacity has increased from 58 kWh to 63 kWh, while the long-range package has grown from 77 kWh to 84 kWh.
Despite the larger capacity, charging efficiency has improved. The time required to charge from 10 to 90 percent is shorter than in previous models, with peak charging reaching 260 kW.
In a separate development regarding the high-performance Ioniq 5 N, designer Kazil Samim has created a digital concept that reimagines the electric vehicle as a Group B-inspired rally car. The concept features an aggressive body kit, carbon fiber splitters, wider fenders, and a roll cage. While the actual Ioniq 5 N is fully electric, the digital design imagines a lightweight version powered by a 1.6-liter turbo engine similar to the WRC Hyundai i20.
