Hyundai launches 8th‑gen Avante in South Korea with upgraded safety and hybrid options

Hyundai Motor Company began sales of the fully redesigned 8th‑generation Avante (known as the Elantra) on May 5, announcing contracts and pricing for both gasoline‑powered and hybrid versions. The new model is larger, adds a suite of advanced driver‑assist features as standard—including ten airbags, smart cruise‑control with navigation‑based speed adjustments, lane‑keeping assist, and a P‑gear emergency‑brake function—and supports over‑the‑air software updates.

Two powertrains are offered: a 2.0‑litre gasoline engine delivering 149 hp and a 1.6‑litre hybrid system rated at 157 hp. Fuel‑efficiency improves to up to 14.3 km/L for the gasoline model and roughly 10 % better mileage for the hybrid. Prices start at 23.98 million won for the base gasoline trim and 30.42 million won for the base hybrid before tax incentives. Deliveries of the gasoline version will begin in the third quarter, with hybrid deliveries to follow after certification and tax‑benefit confirmation.
