South Korean industry leaders partner to advance future mobility ecosystem
South Korean industry leaders and the government are accelerating the development of a future mobility ecosystem through several strategic partnerships. Under the ‘M. AX Alliance’ led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, various companies are collaborating to advance AI-driven automotive technologies.
Hyundai Mobis is acting as an anchor company to boost the localization of automotive semiconductors, which currently sits at a 5% domestic rate. The initiative involves working with fabless companies and research institutes to verify and commercialize domestically produced chips while supporting the transition to Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV).
In a separate collaboration, Hyundai Motor Group and the Korea Expressway Corporation are partnering to build next-generation intelligent charging infrastructure and test ‘Physical AI’ technologies for highway safety and maintenance.
Additionally, the alliance includes efforts to strengthen the robo-taxi sector. Companies such as SWM.ai, Kakao Mobility, and RideFlux are working to establish data-sharing formats and utilize domestic components to reduce reliance on foreign parts, aiming to secure a competitive edge in the global autonomous driving market.
