Hyundai mobility and energy development initiatives
Overview
Hyundai Motor Group and its affiliates are expanding partnerships to advance mobility and energy technologies. In September 2026, Hyundai Motor Group signed a Letter of Intent with the African Development Bank to support industrialization and sustainable growth in Africa, focusing on renewable energy transitions, electric vehicle value chains, and transport infrastructure.
In South Korea, the development of a future mobility ecosystem has accelerated through the ‘M. AX Alliance’ led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Hyundai Mobis is serving as an anchor company in this initiative to boost the localization of automotive semiconductors, which currently maintains a 5% domestic rate. This effort involves collaborating with fabless companies and research institutes to commercialize domestically produced chips and support the transition to Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV).
Further strategic partnerships include a collaboration between Hyundai Motor Group and the Korea Expressway Corporation to develop next-generation intelligent charging infrastructure and test ‘Physical AI’ technologies for highway safety and maintenance. Additionally, the alliance is targeting the robo-taxi sector, with companies such as SWM.ai, Kakao Mobility, and RideFlux working to establish data-sharing formats and utilize domestic components to reduce reliance on foreign parts.
