Hyundai Motor Company launches art series connecting New York and Ulsan
Hyundai Motor Company has announced the second installment of its ‘Hyundai Translocal Series’ art partnership, featuring Singaporean artist Ho Tzu Nyen. The exhibition, titled ‘Hyundai Translocal Series: Ho Tzu Nyen’, will be held sequentially at the New Museum in New York and the Ulsan Museum of Art in South Korea.
The project connects New York and Ulsan through site-specific works exploring the theme of ‘power’. In New York, the exhibition features an AI-driven installation on the New Museum’s glass elevator screens. Using an AI algorithm, the artwork generates unique, non-repeating video content that responds to the elevator’s movement and travel time, reflecting the artist's view of history as a constantly rewritten process.
In Ulsan, the exhibition will utilize the museum’s XR Lab, employing 24 projectors and a spatial sound system to create an immersive multi-channel installation. This work will incorporate data collected from Ulsan’s local industries, including technology, materials, and sounds. This collaboration marks the beginning of a partnership between the two museums intended to continue with annual joint exhibitions through 2028.
