Hyundai Motor expands hydrogen bus deployment through new partnership

Hyundai Motor Company has entered into a multilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand the deployment of hydrogen-powered buses and strengthen charging infrastructure in South Korea. The agreement involves Sunjin Group, Hynet, the Korea Automobile Environmental Association, and the Korea Natural Gas Hydrogen Charging Association.

Under the agreement, Sunjin Group, a major transport operator managing approximately 1,700 buses, plans to introduce 480 hydrogen buses in stages by 2032. This transition includes converting existing compressed natural gas (CNG) stations at depots in Gimpo and Paju into hydrogen charging stations. Hynet will be responsible for constructing and operating high-capacity hydrogen charging stations at designated sites.

Hyundai Motor Company will supply the hydrogen buses and provide specialized maintenance training to ensure stable operations. This partnership follows previous agreements with other large transport groups, such as KD Transport Group and K1 Mobility, as part of Hyundai's strategy to lead the transition to hydrogen mobility in metropolitan public transportation.
