Hyundai hydrogen mobility and infrastructure expansion

Overview

Hyundai Motor Group is expanding its hydrogen-powered mobility and charging infrastructure through various international partnerships.

In Oman, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and OOMCO to support the ‘Oman Vision 2040’ initiative. This collaboration includes the introduction of the nation’s first hydrogen-powered city buses via a pilot service in Muscat and the establishment of ultra-fast electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

In South Korea, Hyundai entered a multilateral agreement with Sunjin Group, Hynet, and several automotive associations to deploy hydrogen buses and strengthen charging networks. As part of this plan, Sunjin Group intends to introduce 480 hydrogen buses by 2032, utilizing converted compressed natural gas stations for hydrogen charging. Hyundai will supply the vehicles and provide specialized maintenance training to support the transition in metropolitan public transportation.

Expanding its domestic presence, Hyundai Motor Group participated in the 2026 Jeju Green Hydrogen Global Forum to advocate for the integration of renewable energy and hydrogen. The group emphasized that hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) serve as a complement to battery electric vehicles (BEVs), specifically for long-distance, heavy-duty, and essential transport sectors like logistics and public transit. During the forum, Hyundai showcased the All New Nexo, a second-generation vehicle with a driving range of 720km. This aligns with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province’s efforts to expand local infrastructure, including an electrolysis plant producing 200kg of hydrogen daily, with a goal to introduce 370 hydrogen vehicles by 2027.
