Hyundai Motor partners to develop safety solutions for school vehicles

Hyundai Motor Company has entered into a business agreement with KT, Kids Note, and MTR to develop a specialized “Safe Boarding and Alighting Solution” for children's school vehicles. The initiative aims to prevent safety accidents, such as children being left behind in vehicles, by promoting the digital transformation of school transport management.

The collaboration will utilize Hyundai's Staria EV as the base vehicle. Key features under development include detecting children remaining inside the vehicle, real-time safety monitoring, location sharing, automatic boarding/alighting notifications, and automated driving logs. To improve accuracy, the companies plan to utilize technologies such as Ultra Wide Band (UWB) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

Each partner holds a specific role: Hyundai Motor will supply the Staria EV and integrate vehicle data like GPS and ignition status; MTR will handle the production, certification, and sale of the specialized vehicles; KT will provide the communication infrastructure and precision positioning technology; and Kids Note will operate the application used by parents and teachers to receive real-time updates.
