Hyundai Motor Union Declares Wage Talks Failed, Schedules Strike Vote

The Hyundai Motor labor union announced that wage negotiations with the company have broken down and has moved toward a strike. After the 11th round of talks at the Ulsan plant on June 12, the union said the management refused to present a comprehensive offer on the 12 demand items, prompting a formal declaration of a bargaining impasse. The union will apply to the Central Labor Relations Commission for dispute mediation on June 15 and will hold a strike‑approval vote among its members on June 25.

The union’s demand package includes a basic‑pay increase of 149,600 won, a profit‑sharing bonus equal to 30 % of last year’s net profit, guarantees for AI‑related job security, implementation of a full‑salary system, a bonus raise to 800 % of base, extension of the retirement age to a maximum of 65, and recruitment of new staff. Hyundai Motor’s CEO cited the lack of a unified proposal and regulatory constraints as reasons for the stalemate, warning that further talks are needed to reach a settlement.
