Hyundai Motors Indonesia prepares for 2027 EV local content rules

Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) has announced its readiness to meet the government's upcoming 60 percent local content requirement (TKDN) for electric vehicles, set to take effect in 2027. Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, Chief Operating Officer of HMID, stated that the company's comprehensive manufacturing ecosystem, which includes battery component production, positions them to support this policy without significant difficulty.

Hyundai's investment in Indonesia has reached approximately Rp50 trillion (USD 3 billion), supporting production facilities with a capacity of up to 150,000 units.

In addition to manufacturing readiness, HMID revealed plans to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the Neira, a seven-seater electric model. Designed to cater to the Indonesian market's preference for multi-passenger vehicles, the Neira will enter the B-segment and may be categorized as either an MPV or an SUV.
