Electric vehicle manufacturing in Indonesia

Overview

Automakers are increasing local production and meeting domestic content requirements in Indonesia. Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) announced its readiness to comply with the government’s 2027 mandate for 60 percent local content (TKDN) for electric vehicles, citing its manufacturing ecosystem and battery component production. HMID also plans to expand its lineup with the Neira, a seven-seater electric model.

Following this trend, Kia is preparing to open pre-orders for the Carens EV, a locally assembled multi-purpose vehicle. The Carens EV features an 80 percent Domestic Component Level (TKDN), supported by Indonesian-manufactured nickel-based batteries. The vehicle is scheduled for production and delivery in November 2026 and will be assembled using Hyundai Motors Indonesia facilities.
