Hyundai posts fastest EV sales growth and unveils cyber‑punk Ioniq V for China market
Hyundai Motor Group recorded the strongest growth among the world's top‑10 electric‑vehicle makers in the January‑May period, delivering 303,000 EVs – a 24.3% increase year‑on‑year – and moving to seventh place globally. The surge outpaced the overall market, which grew 3.5% in the same span, and was driven by recovering demand in Europe and rapid expansion in Asian markets outside China. Chinese manufacturers still dominate the rankings, holding six of the top ten spots, with BYD remaining leader despite a sales decline.
Separately, Hyundai detailed the Ioniq V that will launch in China. Designed by a local Chinese team, the sedan adopts a cyber‑punk aesthetic and will be offered in multiple matte, pearl and solid colours. It rides on the E‑GMP platform with an 800‑volt system, featuring 53.5‑kWh or 66.8‑kWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate batteries that provide between 520‑540 km and 620‑650 km (CLTC) respectively. Power outputs range from 190 PS to 228 PS. Inside, a 27‑inch 4K widescreen display and pillar‑to‑pillar head‑up display are highlighted, alongside advanced driver‑assist functions from Momenta.
