Hyundai unveils 2028‑model Elantra with new 'Art of Steel' design and hybrid powertrain

Hyundai has launched the eighth‑generation Elantra (known as the Avante in South Korea) for the 2027 model year. The compact sedan adopts the brand’s new ‘Art of Steel’ design language, featuring sharper lines, angular panels and a more muscular stance. Its dimensions have grown to 4.77 m long, 1.86 m wide and a 2.75 m wheelbase, putting it on par with midsize SUVs.

Inside, the cabin offers a high‑tech cockpit centered around a 37 cm infotainment screen running the Pleos Connect system and a voice‑controlled AI assistant (Gleo AI). Optional equipment includes a Bang & Olufsen sound system, 360° cameras, wireless charging, 100 W USB ports and ten airbags with advanced driver‑assist features.

Powertrain options are a revised 2.0‑litre gasoline engine delivering 147–149 hp and a full‑hybrid unit that pairs a 1.6‑litre engine with an electric motor for a combined 155–157 hp. The model debuts in South Korea with plans to roll out to other markets, including Europe and Brazil, where local press highlights the similarity of its styling to the new Hyundai i20.

The launch emphasizes Hyundai’s push for larger, more premium compact sedans equipped with advanced connectivity and safety technologies.
