Hyundai unveils eighth‑generation Elantra (Avante) at Busan show

Hyundai Motor revealed the eighth‑generation Elantra, marketed as Avante in South Korea, at the Busan Mobility Show. Built on the new “Art of Steel” design language, the sedan features sharper lines, a more angular silhouette, and LED lighting that forms an “H” shape at the front and rear. Exterior dimensions grew to 4,765 mm in length, 1,855 mm wide and a 2,750 mm wheelbase, adding 55 mm of length and 30 mm of width over the previous model.

Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist layout with a digital instrument cluster positioned near the windshield and a central multimedia screen available in 12.9‑ or 14.6‑inch sizes, powered by Hyundai’s Pleos Connect system and the generative‑AI voice assistant Gleo. Safety and driver‑assist technologies were expanded, including a 360° camera system, adaptive cruise control that uses navigation data, automatic emergency braking, lane‑keeping aid and a new Memory Reversing Assist that steers the car when backing up.

The powertrain lineup offers a 2.0‑litre gasoline engine delivering 149 hp paired with a CVT‑type IVT, and a self‑charging hybrid that couples a 1.6‑litre engine with an electric motor for a combined 157 hp and regenerative braking. Production for the Korean market is slated to start in the third quarter of 2026, with Hyundai hinting at a possible European launch later in the year.
