I/23 road modernization begins between Třebíč and Vladislav
Preparatory works have begun for the extensive modernization of the I/23 road between Třebíč and Vladislav in the Czech Republic. The Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) is currently working on relocating a railway bridge and constructing a new water culvert. To facilitate construction and protect local cycling paths and minor roads from heavy machinery, traffic is being managed via shuttle service using half of the roadway.
The major reconstruction project, scheduled to begin in 2027 and conclude in 2028, covers a nearly four-kilometer stretch. The project aims to improve safety and traffic flow on a high-traffic section that sees over 11,000 vehicles daily, approximately 20% of which are heavy goods vehicles. Between 2007 and 2018, this specific section recorded 124 accidents.
Planned improvements include widening the road, adding dedicated turning lanes at Ptáčov and Hostákov, and creating a connection to the future Vladislav bypass. The infrastructure upgrades will also feature a 46-meter pedestrian underpass, 309 meters of noise barriers, and five retaining walls. The total estimated cost for the main modernization is approximately 380 to 419 million CZK, excluding VAT.
