Iñaki Barrón cites maintenance issues following Adamuz derailment
Iñaki Barrón, the former president of the commission investigating the Adamuz train accident, has highlighted concerns regarding railway maintenance in Spain. He noted that two similar derailments have occurred this year without causing serious injuries.
Barrón indicated that current operational restrictions are conservative measures taken following the accident. He emphasized that a serious lack of maintenance has been observed on certain lines and that the lifting of these restrictions is contingent upon the speed at which Adif performs necessary repairs and improvements to circulation conditions.
Regarding the restructuring of the investigation body, Barrón noted that the new authority will be composed of civil servants, with the president holding the rank of subsecretary and counselors serving as directors general.
