First footage of Ian McKellen returning as Gandalf in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’ has surfaced online. The clip, shared via a fan account and linked to a music video by Troye Sivan, shows the actor in full costume with his signature long gray beard and hair.

Directed by Andy Serkis, who also reprises his role as Gollum, the film is currently in production. The project features several returning cast members, including Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins and Lee Pace as Thranduil. New additions to the ensemble include Jamie Dornan as a younger Strider, Kate Winslet as Marigol, and Leo Woodall as Halvard.

The story is set in the years preceding the events of ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ and follows Aragorn’s quest to find Gollum. Warner Bros. has scheduled the film for theatrical release on December 17, 2027.
