Ibai Llanos hosts food competition between Venezuela and El Salvador
Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos has launched the ‘Mundial de Comidas’ (World Food Cup), a digital competition where 16 nations compete via social media voting to advance through tournament rounds. In the round of 16, Venezuela’s ‘pabellón criollo’ is facing off against El Salvador’s ‘pupusas’.
The Venezuelan dish consists of shredded beef, black beans, white rice, and fried plantains, typically served with a malt beverage. The Salvadoran pupusas are thick corn or rice tortillas filled with cheese and chicharrón, accompanied by curtido and tomato sauce.
Voting is conducted through Ibai Llanos’s official Instagram and TikTok accounts. Results have varied by platform; for instance, on Instagram, the Venezuelan dish has reached approximately 68% of the votes, while on TikTok, El Salvador holds a 56% lead. The competition follows a previous ‘Mundial de Desayunos’ (World Breakfast Cup), which saw Peru’s ‘pan con chicharrón’ narrowly defeat Venezuela’s ‘arepa reina pepiada’.
Other participating nations include Spain, Argentina, Peru, Honduras, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, and Cuba.
