Iberá National Park: New 10-year conservation agreement signed
The National Parks Administration (APN) and the Rewilding Argentina Foundation (FRA) have signed a new ten-year Framework Cooperation Agreement for the Iberá National Park and Reserve in Corrientes, Argentina.
The agreement aims to ensure long-term conservation efforts, building on a decade of collaboration that led to the creation of the National Park in 2018 through land donations by the foundation. Key objectives include ecological restoration, wildlife recovery, the development of nature tourism, scientific knowledge generation, and community engagement.
A major success of the partnership has been the reintroduction of the jaguar, which had been extinct in the Corrientes province since 1953. The current population now exceeds 50 individuals and continues to grow. The new agreement also expands conservation efforts for other emblematic species, such as the giant otter.
