Iberdrola launches €20 billion offshore wind projects in Scotland

Iberdrola, through its subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables, has begun the process to develop two major offshore wind projects in Scotland, representing an estimated investment of 20 billion euros.

The projects, which originated from the 2022 ScotWind leasing round, are MachairWind and MarramWind. MachairWind, located off the west coast of Scotland, has a capacity of approximately 2,000 MW and is expected to be operational around 2033. It is designed to supply electricity to nearly two million homes.

MarramWind, located in the North Sea off the coast of Aberdeenshire, will be one of Europe’s largest floating wind projects. With a capacity of up to 3,000 MW, its development is planned in phases between 2037 and 2043. Both projects are subject to necessary permits and grid connection infrastructure requirements.
