Iberdrola launches Spain's largest energy‑storage battery in Extremadura

Iberdrola inaugurated a 120 MWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery system at Belvis de Monroy, Extremadura, the largest energy‑storage installation in Spain. The facility comprises two 60 MWh modules that are integrated with the Campo Arañuelo I and II photovoltaic plants, which together generate 58 MW of power.

Regional officials, including the Extremadura minister of industry, energy, science and territory, attended the ceremony. CEO Mario Ruiz‑Tagle said the new storage will "support new demand requiring firm capacity and accelerate the electrification of the Spanish economy," reinforcing Iberdrola’s strategy to expand renewable integration and grid stability across the country.
