Iberdrola celebrates 125‑year milestone in Bilbao

Iberdrola marked its 125th anniversary on 19 May 2026 with a ceremony at its Bilbao headquarters, attended by the Basque lehendakari Imanol Pradales, president Ignacio Galán, the mayor of Bilbao and other regional officials. The event featured the launch of a commemorative book outlining the company’s origins in 1901, its recent transformation into Europe’s largest electric utility, and its vision for the “era of electricity” driven by renewable generation, grid expansion and storage.

Galán highlighted Iberdrola’s scale – over €138 billion in market capitalisation, service to more than 100 million people, a workforce of 45 400 employees and €175 billion of investments since 2001 – and stressed the need for stable regulatory frameworks to sustain further electrification. The celebration will extend to the public through a music festival, light show and exhibitions across Spain under the “125 años luz” programme.

Ahead of the company’s upcoming General Shareholders’ Meeting on 29 May, Iberdrola opened Shareholder Service Points in Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia, Valladolid and Zaragoza to allow voting and delegations.
