Iberdrola to acquire Contigo Energía's electricity business
Spain's National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) has granted first-phase approval for Iberdrola to acquire the electricity marketing business of Contigo Energía. This transaction will add approximately 100,000 customers to Iberdrola's portfolio.
This acquisition marks Iberdrola's first purchase of a marketing company within Spain. The move is part of a domestic growth strategy aimed at accelerating the electrification of homes and businesses. Following the deal, Contigo Energía will continue to operate independently within the Iberdrola Group, similar to the Niba brand launched in June 2025.
The deal focuses specifically on the electricity marketing business and its customer base; representation activities are not included in the agreement. The acquisition is intended to strengthen Iberdrola's commercial model by offering stability and protection against market fluctuations.
