Iberian electricity market sees sharp price jump on July 15, 2026

On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the Iberian wholesale electricity market (OMIE) recorded a price of €138.11 per MWh, an 11.30% rise from the previous day and a 66.18% increase compared with the same date a year earlier. The cheapest hour was between 13:00‑14:00 at €90.98/MWh, while the peak price reached €191.95/MWh between 21:00‑22:00.

For households on the regulated PVPC tariff, the average price was €190.76/MWh. The lowest PVPC price occurred between 14:00‑15:00 at €122.12/MWh, and the highest between 21:00‑22:00 at €326.94/MWh. Price differences reflect the hourly balance of supply and demand, renewable generation levels, gas prices, CO₂ emission costs and weather conditions, which together drive lower prices when renewables are abundant and higher prices during peak consumption periods.
