Iberian lynx cub killed by vehicle in Ciudad Real

An Iberian lynx cub has died after being struck by a vehicle on the CM-4115 highway in the province of Ciudad Real, Spain. The incident occurred near the Caracuel lagoon micro-reserve, an area identified as a dispersal zone for the species.

Cyclists discovered the cub and alerted emergency services. The Nature Protection Service (Seprona) recovered the body and transported it to the ‘El Chaparrillo’ Wildlife Recovery Center.

This is not an isolated incident on this stretch of road; three other Iberian lynxes have been killed by vehicles in recent years. In response, the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha has installed warning signs to alert drivers of the species' presence in the area. The micro-reserve is part of the ‘Lagunas Volcánicas del Campo de Calatrava’ Community Importance Site within the Natura 2000 network.
