Ibero-American mayors meet in Madrid to discuss urban development

Municipal leaders from various Ibero-American cities gathered in Madrid, Spain, for the II Ibero-American Cities Meeting to discuss urban development, economic growth, and cultural preservation. The event was organized by the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI) and the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).

During the summit, Carlos Pinedo Cuello, the mayor of Santa Marta, signed the Declaration of the Ibero-American Alliance 500+. This initiative aims to foster cooperation between historic cities to promote heritage conservation and create economic, cultural, and tourism opportunities. The alliance is particularly relevant for Santa Marta as it approaches its 500th anniversary in 2025.

Ulises Rodríguez, the mayor of Santiago de los Caballeros, also participated in the forum. The meeting focused on five key areas: strategic urban planning, innovation and artificial intelligence, culture and creative industries, local economic development, and social cohesion and security.
