II Ibero-American Cities Meeting in Madrid

Overview

The II Ibero-American Cities Meeting convened in Madrid, Spain, organized by the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI). The forum served as a precursor to the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, focusing on urban challenges, sustainable development, and the role of local governments.

Key discussions centered on five strategic areas: urban planning, innovation and artificial intelligence, culture and creative industries, local economic development, and social cohesion and security. Participants included various municipal leaders, such as the mayor of Santiago de los Caballeros, who presented urban transformation processes, and the mayor of Cádiz, who addressed the blue economy and the naval sector.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the signing of the Declaration of the Ibero-American Alliance 500+ by the mayor of Santa Marta. This initiative is designed to foster cooperation among historic cities to promote heritage conservation and generate economic, cultural, and tourism opportunities.
