Ibero-American series see global demand surge in Asian markets

At the sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria in Madrid, data from Parrot Analytics revealed a significant shift in the global consumption of Spanish and Portuguese language fiction. For the first time, the majority of demand for these productions is coming from markets outside of their native linguistic regions.

This trend is driven by stagnation in mature markets like the United States and surging interest in emerging territories, particularly in Asia. South Korea has emerged as a primary driver, seeing a 243% increase in demand for these productions, followed by interest from Japan, Turkey, and China.

A key driver of this success was the Argentine production ‘El Eternauta’, starring Ricardo Darín. The adaptation of the graphic novel reached over three million users on Netflix, contributing to 236,000 new direct sign-ups and retaining more than 2.7 million existing subscriptions.
