Global demand for SPLATAM audiovisual content
Overview
During the Iberseries & Platino Industria conference in Madrid, industry data revealed a significant shift in the global audiovisual market regarding Spanish- and Portuguese-language (SPLATAM) content. For the first time, the majority of global demand for this content is originating from non-SPLATAM markets rather than native linguistic regions.
This growth is largely driven by surging interest in Asian territories. South Korea has seen a 243 percent increase in demand, followed by Japan, Turkey, and China. This trend occurs as demand in mature markets, such as the United States, has begun to stagnate.
A notable driver of this expansion was the Argentine Netflix series ‘The Eternaut’ (or ‘El Eternauta’), starring Ricardo Darín. The production reached over three million users, contributing an estimated 236,000 new subscribers and approximately 2.78 million membership renewals.
