Ibex 35 falls as oil prices surge amid Middle East tensions

The Ibex 35 index experienced a decline, falling by approximately 0.6% to close near 19,632 points. This downturn occurred as oil prices surged, driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and discussions at the 81st UN General Assembly.

Brent crude rose to nearly $102 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) increased by 1.5% to reach $91.85. These fluctuations follow a three-hour meeting in New York between U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian. During the assembly, President Pezeshkian defended Iran's right to nuclear energy and self-defense, while President Trump had previously issued threats regarding an agreement.

In related maritime developments, the UK Maritime Trade Operations reported that at least two people were injured when an unknown projectile struck a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.
