IBEX 35 near 19,200 amid oil and geopolitics
Entities: Ibex 35 · Banco Sabadell · Línea Directa · Galp Energia · Acciona Energía
Overview
The IBEX 35 continued to react to oil price swings and geopolitical tension. After slipping to 19,165.8 points on 16 July, breaking the 19,200 support as Brent traded around $84.5, the index recovered to finish 20 July at 19,206.9, just above the same level. The rebound coincided with Brent climbing to roughly $91 per barrel following the United States’ ninth consecutive night of strikes against Iran and retaliatory attacks reported by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in Jordan and Kuwait. Energy‑related shares such as Repsol rose, while tourism and telecom names like IAG, Telefónica and Aena slipped. European markets were largely muted ahead of the earnings season, with Banco Santander, Bankinter, Banco Sabadell and Mapfre slated to report, and the ECB meeting on 23 July expected to hold rates. In corporate news, Spanish restaurant group Areas confirmed its acquisition of The Restaurant Group’s UK airport concessions, adding 38 outlets.
