Spanish household wealth hits record 2.8 trillion euros

Spanish households have reached a record net financial wealth of 2.8 trillion euros as of the second quarter of 2026, according to the Banco de España. This 12.8% year-on-year increase is primarily driven by the appreciation of stocks and investment funds. Simultaneously, household debt as a percentage of GDP has fallen to 41.9%, the lowest level since 1999, despite an absolute increase in total debt to 729 billion euros.

In the broader European market, France is facing significant fiscal scrutiny as its public debt reaches 120% of GDP. French ten-year government bond yields have approached 5%, causing concern regarding eurozone stability and potential contagion. Investors are monitoring the widening spread between French and German bonds, noting that fiscal fragmentation could impact the entire monetary union.

Global markets remain volatile due to shifting US Federal Reserve policies and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The Ibex 35 has experienced fluctuations, recently struggling to maintain the 19,000-point threshold amid uncertainty. Meanwhile, US Treasury yields have reached multi-year highs, with some analysts warning that 10-year yields could potentially reach 6% due to inflation and rising debt levels.
