Spain's Ibex 35 reaches record high amid US‑Iran truce hopes and SpaceX IPO
The Ibex 35 closed Friday at 18,764.40 points, its highest level ever, marking a 2.3% weekly gain and the first breach of the 18,700‑point barrier. The rally was spurred by two catalysts: optimism that a U.S.‑Iran cease‑fire could be near after President Donald Trump announced the end of hostilities, and the debut of SpaceX, which raised $75 billion in what analysts called the largest ever public offering, with shares jumping about 11% on the Nasdaq.
Oil prices fell below $90 a barrel after the truce news, easing cost pressures on energy‑intensive firms. Renewable‑energy group Acciona Energía led the index with a ~13% rise, followed by Acciona, IAG, ArcelorMittal and Banco Santander. Oil‑linked stocks such as Repsol and Naturgy were among the few decliners. European peers also posted gains, with the FTSE 100, CAC 40, DAX and Euro Stoxx 50 all up around 2%.
Analysts note that the Ibex’s surge reflects both the geopolitical outlook and the market‑wide enthusiasm for SpaceX’s entry, while caution remains that the truce has not been confirmed by Tehran and could reverse the rally if talks stall.
