Ibex 35 loses 85 billion euros amid global debt crisis fears

Spanish Ibex 35 companies have lost approximately 85 billion euros in market value since the index reached its record high of 20,213 points on August 11. This decline is driven by growing fears regarding international debt, oil prices, war, and inflation.

Global sovereign debt markets are facing significant pressure. United States debt has reached a record 37 trillion dollars, causing investor concern that has spread to Japan and the United Kingdom. In Europe, France is identified as a particularly vulnerable point, with 10-year debt yields approaching 5%—the highest levels in 24 years—reaching 4.87% on Friday. In response to these market instabilities, Eurozone Finance Ministers and the European Central Bank are considering potential market interventions.
