IBGE announces preparations for 2027 Agricultural Census

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has launched the final preparation phase for the 12th Agricultural, Forestry, and Aquaculture Census, scheduled for 2027. A key component of this rollout is the new National Preliminary Registry of Agricultural Establishments, a digital tool designed to allow rural producers, cooperatives, and associations to update cadastral data.

This digital initiative aims to modernize the census process, reduce operational costs, and facilitate internet-based data collection starting in March 2027. To ensure readiness, an experimental census will be conducted between November 3 and December 4, 2026. This pilot phase will test technological systems, field logistics, and collection methodologies across diverse Brazilian territories, including locations in São Paulo, Mato Grosso, and Maranhão.
