IBGE reports growth in Brazil beef and pork slaughter for Q2 2026
Data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) shows varying trends in livestock slaughter for the second quarter of 2026. Beef slaughter rose by 1.3% compared to the same period in 2025 and 4.2% compared to the first quarter of 2026, totaling 10.72 million head. This resulted in 2.76 million tons of carcasses.
Pork slaughter also saw growth, with 15.58 million head processed, marking a 3.2% increase from the second quarter of 2025 and a 2% increase from the first quarter of 2026. The total weight of pork carcasses reached 1.49 million tons.
In contrast, poultry slaughter showed mixed results. While the number of chickens slaughtered (1.69 billion head) was 2.8% higher than the second quarter of 2025, it represented a 1.2% decrease compared to the first quarter of 2026. Total carcass weight for poultry was 3.74 million tons, a 5.1% increase year-over-year but a 0.1% decrease from the previous quarter.
Additionally, raw milk acquisition reached 6.61 billion liters, a 1% increase from the second quarter of 2025 but a 2.5% decline from the first quarter of 2026.
