IBGE workers initiate strike over labor and remote work disputes

Workers at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) have initiated a strike, with notable actions reported in Rio de Janeiro and Bahia. The labor movement, organized by the ASSIBGE-SN union, aims to pressure the institute's management regarding several key demands.

Central issues include disputes over the remote and hybrid work regimes for employees who entered through the Unified National Contest (CNU), changes to field agent compensation, and career progression rules. The union has also expressed frustration over a perceived lack of dialogue with IBGE President Marcio Pochmann.

Despite the industrial action, the union stated that the strike is not expected to impact the release schedule of major socioeconomic indicators, such as inflation indices, GDP, and unemployment data (PNAD Contínua), at this stage. The movement follows a series of administrative decisions that the union claims contradict previous agreements and contest rules.
