Ibiza authorities issue record 1,000+ sanctions against illegal transport

The Consell de Ibiza has exceeded 1,000 sanctioning proceedings against illegal transport services in a single year, marking a record for the island. The crackdown targets pirate taxis, unauthorized VTC services, and individuals illegally renting vehicles via the internet.

Sanctions for pirate taxis, which often exceed passenger limits, average approximately 15,000 euros, with potential fines ranging between 15,000 and 25,000 euros under Balearic Islands transport laws. Additionally, the Department of Transport has opened 40 new proceedings against individuals marketing rental vehicles online without the required authorized quota; these infractions carry fines of 4,000 euros each.

As part of the enforcement measures, the institution is preparing a new batch of 35 vehicles for scrapping. The inspection device, which included up to 14 hours of daily surveillance at the Ibiza airport during the tourist season, was conducted in collaboration with AENA airport security.
