Ibiza tourism and mobility trends

Overview

Ibiza is undergoing shifts in its tourism and mobility models. Data from the second quarter of 2026 indicates that while hotel overnight stays decreased by nearly 3% compared to 2025, tourist spending rose by 8.3% over the previous year. Mariano Juan, First Vice President of the Consell d’Eivissa, stated that “fewer nights are not meaning less economic value,” suggesting the island is generating economic activity without increasing human pressure on the territory.

In conjunction with these economic trends, the island has seen a reduction in private vehicle usage following the implementation of mobility regulations in June 2025. Passenger car arrivals at the port decreased by 16.7% during the 2026 summer season compared to 2024, with a 19.3% drop in August. Concurrently, the use of public transportation has increased.

Recent data from the summer of 2026 shows a more drastic contraction in accommodation capacity. Tourist accommodation places fell by 31%, dropping from 2,015 to 1,390 between June and August. Exceltur attributes these reductions to stricter regulatory measures, including moratoria on new licenses and neighborhood-specific limitations.

As the 2026 season concluded in October, the nightlife sector reported significant economic activity, with José Luis Benítez of the Asociación Ocio de Ibiza noting estimated leisure consumption of 60 million euros during the October long weekend.

Parallel to these shifts, the Consell de Ibiza has intensified enforcement against unauthorized mobility. The institution has exceeded 1,000 sanctioning proceedings against illegal transport services in a single year, targeting “pirate taxis,” unauthorized VTC services, and illegal online vehicle rentals. Sanctions for pirate taxis can range between 15,000 and 25,000 euros. Enforcement included up to 14 hours of daily surveillance at Ibiza airport in collaboration with AENA security.
