Ibiza sees rising tourist spending despite fewer overnight stays

Ibiza is experiencing a shift in its tourism model, where increased economic value is being achieved despite a decrease in visitor volume. Data from the Balearic Institute of Statistics (Ibestat) shows that between May and July 2026, hotel overnight stays in Ibiza totaled 4.11 million, representing a nearly 3% decrease compared to the same period in 2025 and a 4% drop compared to 2017.

In contrast, tourist spending has risen significantly. According to the Tourist Expenditure Survey (Egatur), visitors spent 1,121.02 million euros during the second quarter, an 8.3% increase from the previous year and a 14.6% increase compared to 2024.

Mariano Juan, First Vice President of the Consell d’Eivissa, noted that “fewer nights are not meaning less economic value.” He suggested that the island is demonstrating an ability to generate economic activity without increasing the number of visitors or the human pressure on the territory.
