Ibiza tourist accommodation drops 31% amid regulatory tightening
Ibiza experienced a 31% decrease in tourist accommodation capacity this summer, dropping from 2,015 to 1,390 places between June and August. This decline is significantly higher than the 8.3% average decrease recorded across 25 major Spanish urban destinations analyzed by Exceltur.
Other Spanish cities saw notable reductions, including A Coruña (27%), San Sebastián (25%), Palma (23%), Alicante (11.3%), and Valencia (10%). In total, the 25 destinations studied lost nearly 33,000 tourist places compared to the previous summer.
Exceltur attributes these reductions to stricter regulatory measures by various administrations, such as moratoria on new licenses, neighborhood-specific limitations, and the implementation of a single registry for short-term rentals. The decline in the number of available places was partially mitigated during the summer months following the Supreme Court's annulment of a specific traveler registry system.
