IBM and Lockheed Martin launch quantum innovation hub in Switzerland

IBM and Lockheed Martin have established a quantum innovation hub at ETH Zurich to support quantum research, workforce development, and industrial applications in Switzerland. The initiative was formed through an offset agreement with armasuisse.

As part of this collaboration, the first IBM Quantum System Two in Switzerland is scheduled for deployment at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center (CSCS) in Lugano by the end of 2026. The system will be powered by an IBM Quantum Nighthawk processor and is intended to provide Swiss industries, startups, and academic institutions with access to advanced quantum computing resources.

The partnership also includes two joint development projects focused on quantum sensing applications for navigation and the improvement of additive manufacturing for metallic alloys.
