Quantum technology development in Switzerland

Switzerland is expanding its quantum technology infrastructure through new research and manufacturing initiatives.

In mid-September 2026, IBM and Lockheed Martin established a quantum innovation hub at ETH Zurich via an agreement with armasuisse. This partnership includes the planned deployment of an IBM Quantum System Two at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center in Lugano by the end of 2026, intended to provide academic and industrial access to advanced computing resources. The collaboration also targets developments in quantum sensing for navigation and additive manufacturing.

Following this, the Canton of Jura entered a memorandum of understanding with SEALSQ Corp and WISeKey International Holding to create a Swiss Post-Quantum Semiconductor and Cybersecurity Center. This public-private project involves an estimated investment of CHF 40-60 million over six years. The center aims to develop sovereign semiconductor capabilities, specifically focusing on post-quantum technologies to counter cryptographic threats. The initiative seeks to utilize the region’s precision manufacturing expertise and is projected to create over 250 direct jobs within eight years.
