IBM research advances quantum computing toward practical application
Quantum computing technology is transitioning from the experimental phase toward practical application. This shift follows research from IBM in late July, which demonstrated ‘quantum supremacy’—the ability of a quantum computer to outperform traditional classical computers in specific tasks.
The development of these machines relies on quantum properties, such as the ability of particles to exist in multiple states simultaneously, allowing for calculations far faster than binary-based systems. This technological advancement is expected to significantly impact several key sectors, including medical research, telecommunications, finance, and artificial intelligence.
