The field of quantum computing is seeing developments in both hardware architecture and algorithmic efficiency. Building on these advancements, research from IBM in late July demonstrated ‘quantum supremacy’—the ability of a quantum computer to outperform traditional classical computers in specific tasks.
This transition toward practical application is driving the emergence of a ‘quantum economy.’ While universal quantum computers are not yet immediately available, hybrid approaches are being applied to real-world business problems. In a September 2025 test, HSBC and IBM used hybrid classical-quantum computing for algorithmic trading in the European corporate bond market, reporting a 34% improvement in predicting transaction win probabilities over traditional techniques. Furthermore, institutions such as the Cleveland Clinic are beginning to integrate these technologies into healthcare.
